A note from our friends at MarketWise(ad)

Dear Reader,

I’m convinced that AI’s next phase will blindside millions of American investors.

And it has NOTHING to do with the recent “tech wreck.”

But I believe if you have any money in the stock market or a 401(k), it’s imperative you make one straightforward move immediately…

A move that I’ll explain, for free, right here.

This isn’t my first bold AI prediction.

  • I recommended Nvidia all the way back in 2015, before it went on to surge over 21,000%.
And years before AI became a household term, I developed a 20-factor computerized stock-rating system to identify tomorrow’s winners on Wall Street… TODAY.
  • That system recently identified AI winners such as Sandisk, before it rose 300% in just a few months.
  • It flashed bullish on data-storage company Seagate, before it rocketed 393% in months.
  • And Micron Technology, before an 827% gain in just a year.

But there’s a reason most folks didn’t catch these ahead of time.

Each of these stocks took off thanks to a powerful ripple effect spreading through the AI economy.

And my research suggests that ripple is now moving somewhere new.

I’m sharing all the evidence to prove why AI’s next phase could generate the biggest and fastest financial windfalls I’ve seen in my 60-year career…

And the straightforward move I believe you should make now, before the next wave hits.

Get the full story and see the name of my No. 1 recommendation here.

Be well,

Marc Chaikin

Humana Is Posting a Planned Loss. Is the Repair Job Real?

Humana walked into this morning exactly where it said it would be: reporting a loss. When management issued Q3 guidance on July 29, 2026, it told investors to expect adjusted EPS of approximately ($1.00), with the Insurance segment benefit ratio running slightly above 94%. That is not a miss. It is the stated plan. The debate is whether the plan is working, or whether Humana is rebuilding on ground that could shift beneath it.

The Bull Case: Deliberate Pain, Durable Recovery

There is a coherent argument that Q3 is the low-water mark before a meaningful recovery. The benefit ratio has been moving in a recognizable arc. Q1 came in at 89.4%, slightly favorable to guidance of just under 90%. Q2 landed at 91.2%, in line with guidance of slightly above 91%. Q3, now above 94%, reflects the deliberate seasonal loading management scripted months ago, while the full-year adjusted EPS target of at least $9.00 remains affirmed.

The more important signal came in October. Humana’s largest Medicare Advantage contract, covering about 2.4 million members, rose from 3.5 stars to 4, clearing the federal bonus threshold. The achievement could translate into meaningfully higher bonus payments starting in 2028, when 2027 Star Ratings flow into payment, though the exact dollar impact varies by bid and county and should be treated as an estimate. That is not a rounding error. It is the linchpin of everything management has promised at its 2025 Investor Day.

The company has said its 2027 plan exits are expected to affect about 600,000 members as it sheds lower-return business, while expanding electronic prior authorization, creating a margin-recovery story with significant execution and regulatory risks. Humana expects individual Medicare Advantage membership growth of approximately 25% this year, and has reiterated its goal to return to a sustainable pre-tax margin of at least 3% by 2028. Analysts currently project EPS rising to about $16.02 in fiscal 2027. If the Stars hold and medical costs behave, that recovery is not fantasy.

The Bear Case: A Democratic Congress Can Change the Math by Vote

Here is the problem. Medicare Advantage plans could face more scrutiny from a Democratic Congress. Democrats swept the midterms this week, and their healthcare agenda is explicit. Democrats have signaled support for reforms targeting Medicare Advantage, including strengthening protections for beneficiaries by addressing network barriers and unnecessary prior authorization. Prior authorization is one of the levers Humana has been pulling hardest to control costs.

The veto pen limits immediate action. Democrats have promised to reverse Medicaid cuts and restore expired ACA subsidies, but any law still needs President Trump’s signature or enough votes to override a veto. Still, committee control matters. Democrats will hold committee gavels in 2027, and that brings subpoena power. Oversight hearings, CMS guidance, and coverage requirements can all move without a presidential signature.

The sector-wide environment is already uncomfortable. Seniors in Medicare Advantage face fewer choices for 2027 after insurers, focused on resuscitating flagging margins, slashed the number of plans on offer. CVS announced a full corporate breakup this week, planning to split into two separate public companies by the first half of 2028, after the integrated model it built with the Aetna deal came under strain. When a top managed-care conglomerate decides it wants to unwind parts of vertical integration, it says something about the durability of the current business model.

Where the Evidence Leads

The bull case depends on three things arriving together: Stars bonuses materializing in 2028, medical cost trends cooperating, and the regulatory environment staying workable. Two of three are currently tracking. Humana successfully improved its largest contract to 4 Stars and has been transparent in investor commentary about its strategic goal to return to top-quartile Star ratings by 2028. That is real progress, not projection.

The bear case does not require Democrats to pass a sweeping Medicare Advantage reform bill. It only requires them to slow the pricing recovery cycle enough to push the 2028 recovery timeline out another year or two. Slow, multi-year recovery and pricing cycles in Medicare Advantage mean target margins are not achievable after a single renewal in many cases, implying prolonged earnings headwinds for the insurance segment.

The pricing cycle pressure extends beyond Medicare Advantage. Insurers who mispriced the post-subsidy ACA enrollment pool are now absorbing a second round of adverse selection, compressing the industry’s overall margin recovery runway.

The Q3 loss was scripted. That much is not in dispute. The more important question is what Q4 guidance says about full-year 2027 pricing power and whether management’s 2028 earnings unlock survives contact with a Congress that just won a mandate to scrutinize the industry. Watch the Q4 benefit ratio and any commentary on 2027 MA bid pricing. Those two data points will tell you more than the quarterly loss ever could.
